About the artwork
Foo Wenfeng's new series utilises a narrative style featuring birds; every composition is like a song sung by birds, spinning stories about the rich Singapore experience. Resident and migratory birds are juxtaposed against neighbourhood scenes and tourist landmarks amidst unique flora, in a symbolic representation of island life. The Pink-necked Green Pigeon is an important disperser of fruit seeds. Couples work together as parents to incubate the eggs and raise the chicks, mostly with the male during the day and the female at night. The parents also work together on the nest, where the male collects the nesting materials and the female builds it. These behaviours reflect how our parents worked together for the future of their children, and collectively, Singapore families for the future of the next generation. This unwaning ambition is how the country has progressed, resulting in today’s economic infrastructure and wealth.

About Foo Wenfeng

Foo Wenfeng is a full time artist who graduated from NAFA / Loughborough University with a BA(Hons). He paints predominantly in oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas with a disposition towards expressionistic strokes and impressionistic colours. He is most adept at manipulating the texture of pigment to depict a sense of existence within his subjects.

With an obsessive interest in the physical and textural representation of things, he employs gestural strokes of varied thickness and colours in his paintings to create a sensorial experience for the viewer. He believes that a painting can communicate certain emotions and feelings that words sometimes cannot.

He has participated in several group exhibitions and the Affordable Art Fair, Singapore. His inaugural solo exhibition, Dreams of the Garden City, was held in 2018, and Birdsong Rhapsody this year represented his sophomoric solo outing.
