About the artworkFlora 15 is a beautiful Digital C-Type Print by Contemporary photographer duo Tortora & Travezan, in an Edition of 25.All prints are produced to order. Lead times between 5-10 days. Photography duo Tortora & Travezan create vibrant portraits that combine nude and still life. They develop their adventurous and uncompromising marriage of colour and close-up nudes in "Flora", their second fine-art series that celebrates nature and the sensuous freshness of spring.
David Tortora, born in Italy and Jaime Travezan, born in Peru, met in London where Tortora worked as an art director and Travezan as a photographer. The pair have been working together since 2009 on both, personal and commercial projects. They describe their output variously as ‘anti-minimal’, ‘visually rich’ and ‘realistic but categorically non-real’.
GALATEA was their first foray into fine art photography with a series of works exploring and combining the fields of nude and still life. The strong use of colour and body close-ups continues in the series FLORA, a celebration of freshness, spring and nature.
The Galatea series takes its name from the Greek myth, Pygmalion. According to legend, the sculptor (Pygmalion) fell in love with a statue he had carved (Galatea) that in turn fell in love with the sculptor when brought to life by Aphrodite. The series is a homage to the work of Tom Wesselmann. The compositions pay tribute to the American pop artist with a contemporary, hyper-real re-interpretation of his iconic early Seventies ‘Bedroom Paintings’ series.
TORTORA & TRAVEZAN have won much acclaim for their distinctive style of work, including awards such as Winner of the 2016 Fine Art Photo Awards (Flora) and Winner of the 2015 PDN Photo Annual, Personal Category (Galatea) and Photographer of the Year nominee at the Lucie Awards 2014. Their work has also been selected for exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London as part of the 2012 and 2013 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize (MÃrame, Lima).
