About the artworkFernando Alday starts with almost archaeological research on colour and texture. In his work, he uses 17th-century records and old paper as his primary object, along with medieval ink. He is interested in the fact that these materials expose the passage of time, but in the sense that they make you feel that the present is within the circle of life; He is interested in the ephemeral, in mutability; this way I try to make the spectator aware of the present as life’s driving engine.

Fernando Alday’s works dealt with the passage of time through collage. The old documents and papers, and the medieval ink he uses to create his work express materially the importance of the past, but - and here lies the symbolic turn in his work - only in order to make us more aware of the present as life’s driving engine.
