About Lisa House

Lisa House was born in 1973 and is based in the Northeast. While she has always painted, only at 28 years old, she decided to begin painting more seriously. She also worked for her local school, Darlington College, as a learning support assistant, helping teenagers who need extra help.

Her landscape abstract paintings depict a wide range of North-East locations – from the wild Northumberland coast to the fells of Upper Teesdale; she takes inspiration from her local surroundings and is most recognised for her atmospheric style, trying to capture the mood of those places.

Lisa's paintings can be described as everchanging because of the 30 plus layers that compose her paintings. She likes to incorporate natural materials such as twigs and leaves. Lisa uses lots of fabric squares, including cut-offs from her old clothes and material she buys on eBay.

An admirer of Antoni Tapies, Paul Klee and Gustav Klimt, she also makes her own frames and often works with more than 20 paintings at a time, working for ten minutes on each canvas. She says: “If I am struggling with one of them I turn it to the wall. When I look at it again it will be with fresh eyes".

She exhibits in galleries and art fairs throughout the UK.
