About Jessica Cooper

Jessica Cooper, born in 1967, has lived and worked in Cornwall’s West Penwith for most of her life. She studied at Falmouth College of Art and Goldsmith’s, University of London. She finds inspiration in everything, from conversations with friends to looking up at the stars at night or by watching a child fishing off the end of the pier in Newlyn.

She currently works as an artist and a teacher, creating stunning still life paintings from her studio at Newlyn School of Art. She advocates minimalism and composition in her work, and notes that the ‘blank grey space surrounding a vase becomes as important as the actual subject matter itself’.

As one of Cornwall’s leading contemporary painters, Cooper regularly exhibits nationally, including exhibitions at The Exchange, Newlyn Art Galleries and Tate St. Ives. She is also an elected RWA (Royal West of England Academician) and a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections worldwide.
